International house

In our international house on Torvet in Esbjerg, you can, among other things, visit Esbjerg Municipality's Newcomer Service and participate in a wide range of different events.

A citizen house for everyone

Everyone is welcome to participate in events at the international house. Esbjerg Municipality's Event Secretariat and Newcomer Service have workplaces on the ground floor. Danish and international newcomers are always welcome here. It's a good idea to contact the Newcomer Service to make an appointment before visiting.

On the first floor of the house, there are large and small meeting rooms where various events are held regularly.

Participate in events

The many events in the international house are either organized by the Newcomer Service, Esbjerg International Community, or by other networks that host events for international and Danish newcomers.

The meeting rooms can also be used when volunteer networks for international and Danish newcomers need a place to meet. Feel free to contact the Newcomer Service if your association or network needs to borrow a meeting room for a newcomer event.

Esbjerg International Community

A strong network of newcomers

The many volunteers in Esbjerg International Community contribute to strengthening the international environment. They organize events and continuously establish new networks for both Danish and international newcomers.

The great experiences

Volunteers assist at events

Esbjerg Municipality's event secretariat is responsible for organizing events such as Esbjerg Festuge, various sports events, and maritime events.

Many volunteers lend a hand during these major events, which is why the event secretariat and the Newcomer Service collaborate closely.

The house's history

Esbjerg's old Courthouse and Jail

The international house is located in the historic building in the center of Torvet, in the heart of Esbjerg.

The house was designed by architect H.C. Amberg in 1892 and originally served as the town hall before it functioned as a courthouse and jail. The building has been carefully renovated in collaboration with Realdania.

The prison cells in the jail were used until 1947, and during World War II, the Germans used the house. City council meetings were held in the house until 1976.

Today, civil ceremonies can take place in the Borgersalen. Visit Esbjerg's welcome center is located at the front of the building. In the rear building, you will find the Newcomer Service, the Event Secretariat, and meeting rooms for events and working meetings related to Vision 2025.
