Economic free place subsidy

You can apply for economic free place subsidy if your child is enrolled in a municipal or self-owned daycare.

An economic free place subsidy reduces your payment for childcare completely or partially. Generally, the lower your income, the more economic subsidy you are entitled to.

You can only get an economic free place subsidy if your household income is below the income thresholds set in the free place scale.

Income thresholds for 2026:

  • Below 218.101 DKK 
    Your payment is 0 DKK per month
  • Between 218.101 and 222.936 DKK
    Your payment is 5% of the rate.
     
  • Between 218.101 and 677.499 DKK
    The subsidy is reduced by 1 percentage point each time your income rises by 4.836 DKK.
     
  • 677.500 DKK or above
    You cannot be granted an economic free place subsidy.

Income thresholds for 2025: 

  • Below 208.101 DKK 
    Your payment is 0 DKK per month.
  • Between 208.101 and 212.017 DKK
    Your payment is 5% of the rate.
     
  • Between 208.101 and 646.499 DKK
    The subsidy is reduced by 1 percentage point each time your income rises by 4.615 DKK
     
  • 646.500 DKK or above
    You cannot be granted an economic free place subsidy.

Are you a single parent?

The income limits are increased by 76.317 DKK.

Several children under 18 living at home ?

The income limits are increased by DKK 7.000 for each child beyond the first.

Is your child cared for in a private institution?

If your child is enrolled in a private institution, there are special rules for calculating economic free place subsidies. Contact the placement office to learn more about the rules.
