If you are unable to apply for economic free place subsidy digitally, you should contact Citizen Service. Here, you can either order a MitID or apply to be exempted from digital self-service. If you are exempted from digital self-service, you will be able to apply for the economic free place subsidy on paper, provided by Citizen Service.

Once you have received and accepted an offer for a place in a daycare, Pladsanvisning & Tilskud will subsequently enroll your child. After this, you can apply for economic free place subsidy.

If you want your child enrolled in SFO (after-school care) or a club, you can apply for economic free place subsidy once Pladsanvisning & Tilskud has processed your application.

No, if you are married, you should apply for economic free place subsidy together with your spouse, as there is a mutual support obligation. Your spouse's income should be included in the calculation, and you are not eligible for a single parent deduction.

If either you or your spouse/partner is self-employed, you should report the expected result of the business in the application under "annual result of self-employed business."

Certain deductions are considered tax-technical, such as depreciation on assets and equipment exceeding 10%, buildings exceeding 2%, and livestock write-downs, and will be added to the result. At the end of the year, you will be asked to submit the tax accounts for the business.

There are different rules for calculating economic subsidies for children in private institutions. Therefore, you may still have a co-payment even if you have been granted 100% economic  subsidy.

The economic subsidy is not calculated based on your co-payment but as a percentage of the municipality's average gross operating expenses for an age-appropriate placement. A fixed amount depending on your co-payment is applied. The same subsidy scale as for places in a municipal daycare facility is used. If you have received full or partial economic free place in your previous place of residence, you must reapply in Esbjerg municipality. You can do this through the self-service solution, MinPladsanvisning.

Pladsanvisning & Tilskud (Placement & Subsidies) strives to process your application as quickly as possible, but there may be a processing time of up to 6 weeks from the date we received the application.

You are obligated to inform Placement & Subsidies (Pladsanvisning & Tilskud) if there are changes in the composition of your household, such as becoming a single provider or living with a partner. If there are permanent increases or decreases in household income, it might be a good idea to update your income by submitting a new application for economic free place subsidy on MinPladsanvisning.

Every month, we recalculate the economic free place subsidy for the previous month based on information from the income registry at SKAT. If it turns out that an adjustment to the economic free place subsidy is necessary, it applies only to that specific month.

If the income for that month differs by an amount equivalent to at least 5 steps on the subsidy scale from the income used as the basis for the same period, the co-payment is adjusted. In 2022, this corresponds to an increase of DKK 1.736 per month or DKK 20.825 annually. The co-payment is adjusted whether household income rises or falls.

You will receive a recalculation letter in your E-boks if there is an adjustment to your co-payment for that specific month.

It may take up to 3 months for the co-payment to be adjusted because the municipality needs to await information from SKAT about your household's income for that particular month. For example, the subsidy for January is adjusted in April, and the subsidy for February is adjusted in May, and so on.

There is an annual final adjustment of your economic free place subsidy for the preceding calendar year. The final adjustment is based on your annual statement, information from the income registry, or other relevant documentation regarding your financial circumstances.

If there are changes in your household composition, marital status, or other circumstances that affect your economic free place subsidy, you are obligated to notify Placement & Subsidies about these changes.

If you fail to provide this information, be prepared for potential repayment demands.
