We use the national dyslexia test, which can be administered from March in 3rd grade. Testing can take place every year from March to June in grades 3 to 9. In 10th grade, testing can occur year-round.
A literacy resource person at your child's school will conduct the test with your child. After the test, you will receive a report with your child's results. Your child will be placed in one of these categories:
- Not dyslexic (green category): Your child's phonological skills are on par with their grade level.
- Uncertain phonological decoding (yellow category): Your child has some phonological difficulties, but not to the extent seen among dyslexic students at their grade level.
- Dyslexic (red category): Your child has phonological difficulties of a magnitude seen among dyslexic students at their grade level.
If your child is tested as dyslexic, your child's school can assist you in contacting a dyslexia advisor. You can also contact the Pedagogical Unit through the contact box on this page.
