Øster Vedsted

Øster Vedsted is a village suburb of Ribe and lies in a scenic area in the middle of 'Margueritruten' and just up the Ribe Å in the Wadden Sea National Park.

Green, countryside suburb

Øster Vedsted is located in a beautiful nature area midway along the Daisy Route and just above Ribe River, which is a part of the Wadden Sea National Park. The community is located close to Ribe and is regarded as a countryside suburb of city. There are good paths and bicycle paths connecting the area to Ribe, which can be reached in 10 minutes by bike. From Øster Vedsted, you can see Ribe Cathedral across the marsh and the open landscape.
 
There is a mix of single-family homes and old farmsteads in Øster Vedsted. The southeastern part of the settlement, where most of the housing is located, has a suburban character.

The western part of the area is home to the old farmsteads and beautiful nature, which gives it a country town feel. A small business district is located in the northeastern part of  Øster Vedsted, where both small and medium sized businesses can be found. Granly Skov, a picnic and playground area, can be found in the middle of Øster Vedsted.

Øster Vedsted is located south of Esbjerg and south of Ribe and approx. 1,100 people live in the city.

Community spirit

Many families live in Øster Vedsted, and the area has an active association life, which includes activities for families and children. Øster Vedsted Sports Association hosts a range of sports, such as football, handball, gymnastics, badminton and swimming.

Furthermore, much activity can be found around the FDF and the community hall, where the newly renovated leisure and youth club facilities are located. The community hall, town council and sports association are central focal points in the village and function as both social and cultural meeting spots.

There are many ongoing and annual activities happening in Øster Vedsted, such as the City Festival, community feasts, annual activity day, flea markets, Skt. Hans, Christmas Festival and Christmas bazaar.

Once a year the community holds the Æ Quernsteens run, a community race. The city´s toboggan run experiences much activity throughout the winter season.

The marsh north of Øster Vedsted is an international nature conservation area and one of the world's most important bird areas.

Schools, after-school care (SFO) & clubs

Esbjerg Municipality is divided into seven school districts and a district named city of children. Children in Øster Vedsted belong to Vadehavsskolen, with 2 locations in Ribe. School buses connects the area to Ribe and there are good bicycle paths.
