Esbjerg C - Jerne

Jerne is located east of Boldesager and north of Østerbyen. The area is very open with several green areas and playgrounds.

The old centre

The area predominantly consists of detached houses, but also offers attached row houses and multistory apartment buildings.

The northern part of Jerne is characterized by attached row houses in Fuglebakken. Multistory apartment buildings can be found in the eastern part of Jerne in Skoleparken and in the western part of Jerne in Frejaparken.

Jerne is located in the north-eastern part of Esbjerg C and has approx. 6,300 inhabitants.

Community spirit

Much of the activity in Jerne is concentrated around Storegade and gives the neighborhood a small-town atmosphere. In this area you can find the local pub, church, and shopping options.

Jerne Kro (inn) also plays a central role hosting annual events including Sankt Hans, Christmas activities and children’s day.

Jerne IF and Jerne Stadium are central to sports life in Jerne and in relation to activities in Jerne in general

The old Jerne

Esbjerg originally belonged to Jerne parish.

Esbjerg Municipality is divided into seven school districts and a district named city of children. Children in the central, northwestern and northeaster areas of Jerne are part of the Cosmos school district.  Children in the southern area of Jerne are part of the Urban school district.

The village of Jerne was originally located a little to the east of the church. Today, only two small farms are preserved. Nowadays, Jerne has urban streets and several peaceful areas with single-family homes and child-friendly streets.
